Csorja

This house from Papolc (Păpăuți) in Háromszék was originally built by the Csorja family, after whom it is named. We moved it to its current spot in 2021. The seven-room house, sleeping 22, is a superb combination of present-day comfort and last-century tradition. “Once upon a time... a Szekler lad, with a shell splinter in his shoulder, was making his way home from the First World War when he caught sight of a young mother rocking her little daughter in her arms while mourning her husband, fallen in the war. He pitied her at once, but when they looked at each other they knew immediately that God had made them for one another. Ferenc Csorja of Papolc set about building their own home on the family plot, opposite his parents' house, and moved in with Ida Bagoly around 1922, once the priest had given them his blessing. Ferenc Csorja the younger — my father — was born in 1924, and after returning safely from the Second World War and the English captivity that followed, he became a teacher in Kovászna, where he started a family and lived out his life until his death in 2021. After his parents passed away, the house in Papolc, with its rich orchard, waited for its fortunes to turn, but since I, the sole heir, could not do justice to what the beautiful garden and house offered — fate had carried me quite far away — I hoped for a wonderful solution, which was granted in 2021. The Gyimes Skanzen Guesthouse accepted my offer, and so the house so dear to my heart, built by my Grandfather with his own two hands 100 years ago, began a new life.” – Viola Török
